Marsing, Riddle,

City
Established: December 31, 1863

Name Origin:
'Owyhee' and 'Hawaii' are two different spellings of the same
word. Owyhee County is named in memory for three native Hawaiians
who were part of Donald MacKenzie's Snake Expedition, who had
left the party in the winter of 1819-1820 to explore the unknown
terrain of (what was later to be known as) the Owyhee River and
Mountains and were never heard of again and presumed to be dead.
British fur trappers began calling the region 'Owyhee'.
