Name Origin: Randolph County was named for John Randolph, a Virginian who served both in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate as well as Minister to Russia. He became leader of the "Old Republican" base of the Democratic-Republican Party and promoted the "Principles of '98" supporting states' rights to nullify unconsitutional federal laws.
