Name
Origin: Benton County was named for Thomas Hart Benton,
a U.S. Senator from Missouri who was a staunch supporter of westward
expansion of the United States more commonly known as the Manifest
Destiny. Benton served as Senator from 1821-1851, becoming the
first member of the Senate to serve five terms.
